Lyft Station Electrification - Illinois
Transportation | Electric Mobility | Illinois
Project Summary
Aldridge was selected by Lyft to partner with them on the Divvy Electric Bike Pilot Project in Chicago. This was Lyft’s first-of-a-kind pilot project to convert and deliver fully electrified stations within the city, supporting energy and operations efficiencies across Lyft’s expansive network. With more than 500 stations in the city, Lyft’s electric bikes are considered a multimodal solution serving the daily commuter as well as supporting tourists as they visit the city’s most popular attractions. Aldridge served as the prime contractor for the pilot, leading station feasibility, engineering and construction. Aldridge leveraged our long-standing ComEd contractor-of-choice designation and our robust partnerships with the City of Chicago’s Office of Underground and Department of Transportation to select the stations within Lyft’s network that met the feasibility criteria. Once the stations were selected, Aldridge continued the multi-party coordination between Lyft, a third-party station manufacturer, the city departments and ComEd to complete the design, construction, installation and testing of the new fully electrified stations. During the design phase, Aldridge knew these stations would need a quick disconnect feature that would allow the city to move them for inclement weather or other operational situations. Our team quickly identified an innovative solution that met the requirements of all stakeholders. After successful completion of the pilot, Aldridge and Lyft are now in the early planning stages to expand the station electrification to more than 100 sites across the city in the coming years.
