EV Charging - Municipal Transit Center - Wisconsin
Transportation | Electric Mobility | Wisconsin
Project Summary
Aldridge was selected as the prime contractor to install a new first-of-kind 1.2 mW charging station technology and 10 new 120 kW dispenser stations for a new fleet of Proterra electric transit buses. The 1.2 mW charging station will be installed on a new concrete equipment pad (30’ x 16’ x 24”), and new underground conduit ducts installed to distribute DC power to each of the new dispenser stations. The new dispenser stations will be pedestal-mounted and placed along the bus parking lanes with protective bollards. This is the first time Proterra will be deploying this type of system in the field and it will be powering the fleet of 10 buses but will have the capability to charge up to 30 buses in order to expand for future capacity needs. As the prime contractor, Aldridge is responsible for all design, construction, installation and testing as well as managed the coordination between the transit agency, utility and key stakeholders. This project is currently ongoing due to Proterra equipment supply chain delivery lead times being delayed as all equipment is being produced in Spain and then shipped to the Proterra facility in Arizona for assembly. Because of these supply chain challenges, Aldridge has partnered with Proterra to come up with a temporary solution to keep the fleet up and running. The team analyzed the system, completed a power study and determined the appropriate minimum power. The Aldridge crew used temporary chargers on skids to meet the start up date.
