Project Summary
Aldridge was selected as the prime contractor to install 2 new 120 kW charging stations and 2 new 120 kW dispenser stations for a new fleet of Proterra electric transit buses at MTU’s existing bus garage in La Crosse, WI. Because this was an existing facility that had to continue transit operations during construction, Aldridge crews used several maintenance of traffic solutions and creative retrofits to keep operations running at full speed.
The new charging stations were concrete pad-mounted, and the new dispensers were then installed using a remote-controlled ceiling-mounted electric hoist system to lower the dispenser cables and plugs into place next to each bus by pressing a button. This ceiling mounted system was a specific request by MTU and Proterra to allow for maximum facility flexibly to charge the buses during off-peak hours.
