Orange County Streetcar - California

Transportation | Transit & Rail | OCS | Streetcar | California

Project Summary

Aldridge was awarded the electrical scope on Orange County’s first-ever streetcar. The project is underway and calls for a 4.15-mile route (in each direction) from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center through downtown Santa Ana and along a former Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way to a new multimodal transit hub. Along the way, the OC Streetcar will connect directly to 18 OCTA bus routes and serve historic downtown Santa Ana and Civic Center.

The project involves complex scheduling with multiple work sequences as well as a high level of attention to avoid impacts to the traveling public and the community.

Working with the general contractor, Aldridge will install the traction power and overhead catenary system. Other scope items provided by Aldridge include the fiber optic communications system, substations, duct banks, as well a non-traditional signaling system primarily running off of adjacent traffic signals.

The overhead catenary system for the OC Streetcar is set to be energized in late 2021, with revenue service expected to begin immediately after.
