Manhole Assessment Program - Washington DC
Power | Distribution | Manhole Assessment | Washington DC
Project Summary
Aldridge began work on the east coast Manhole Inspection Program in January 2020. Since the inception of the program, 30,000 manholes have been assessed by the Aldridge team over the entire local utility’s territory Many of these manhole locations required special planning and scheduling; for instance during the Inauguration as well as high-security areas around the White House, Atlantic City Boardwalk, I-395 3rd Street Tunnel, and Area of the Capitol.
This scope of work has led to the successful expansion of our local workforce through collaboration with community stakeholders and programs to represent the region's diverse demographics. In the first year, we developed 80% local workforce with 45% diversity.
Over the life of the 6-year program, Aldridge is working to assess all underground distribution facilities across all operating companies encompassing approximately 68,000 locations. The program is a continuation of the 2018 pilot which involves completing the enclosed space entry procedure (which includes verifying safe atmospheric and electrical conditions), entering the manhole with the proper PPE, and then the use of infrared cameras as well as still and 360 photography to capture the conditions of the systems within the manhole.
