Intelligent Transportation System - Virginia

Transportation | Highways & Bridges | ITS | Virginia

Project Summary

The extension of the express lanes on I-95 south towards Fredericksburg, Virginia, addresses congestion in a heavily traveled corridor. This design-build project involves extensive infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of a 4-way duct bank, power and fiber optic cables, and an advanced Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Aldridge’s scope included the installation of over 300 network devices, 76 custom cabinets, 24 dynamic message signs, 9 electrical services, 7 generators, 40 overhead sign structures, 3 tolling gantries, and 60 swing gates.

The project features significant self-performed work, with collaboration from multiple subcontractors and support for a disadvantaged business enterprise program. The ITS system aims to enhance traffic management and driver safety, improving the overall travel experience.
