Industrial Infrastructure | Transportation | Transit & Rail | Illinois

Project Summary

Aldridge played a pivotal role in constructing the new Damen Station on Chicago's Green Line, a modern transit hub designed to enhance connectivity and commuter experience. Our work included comprehensive electrical installations, traffic control systems, communication systems for the station, and traction power upgrades at the Washington Substation.

Project Scope

  1. Damen Station House: Complete installation of electrical systems for the new station, integrating seamlessly with its modern design.

  2. Traffic Management: Implemented traffic signals, controls, and street lighting at key intersections.

  3. Signals and Communications: Temporarily rerouted communication lines during construction and executed permanent installations post-completion.

  4. Traction Power Upgrades: Installed new DC switchgear compartments and traction cables to enhance power capabilities at the Washington Substation.

The station’s design features predominantly glass walls, custom lighting, and a green roof—the first of its kind for a CTA station.

The Damen Station bridges a previously underserved 1.6-mile gap between key stops, significantly improving access to the United Center, Malcolm X College, and surrounding areas, thereby enhancing the local transit experience.
