Corbett-Sugar-Quarry - Florida

Power | Foundations | Amphibious | Florida

Project Summary

This transmission line project runs 69 miles from the Corbett and Sugar substations in Palm Beach County to the Quarry substation in Miami-Dade County. It is a 500 kV, single-circuit, triple-bundled line. Aldridge performed work on 540 drilled shafts, 576 direct embeds, and 376 anchors that were included in our scope.

The scope of work also included surveying, clearing the right-of-way, building access roads and structure pads, installing drilled pier foundations and anchor piles, and setting structures including the steel H-Frames and 3-pole concrete dead ends. The majority of this line traverses the environmentally sensitive Florida Everglades requiring stringent water runoff and erosion measures.

Unique to this project was the construction of 15 miles through canal waterways utilizing barges, concrete pump lines, and amphibious equipment. This project serves as a critical tie between two 500 kV substations to increase reliability on the Florida Power & Light grid.

This project was featured in ADSC’s Foundation Drilling Magazine. To view more information about this project and its featured editorial, click here.

T&D World also featured our amphibious equipment capabilities. That story can be viewed here.
