Diverging Diamonds

Safety and efficiency are the priorities in the new diverging diamond-style interchange at Illinois 59 and Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88). Aldridge is part of the team bringing this design to the Chicago area for the first time. 

A diverging diamond interchange layout eliminates left turns, allowing for increased safety and reduced congestion. The design also accommodates pedestrians by guiding them through the center of the interchange on a shared, multi-use path.  

This design was chosen due to the high traffic volumes of the interchange; averaging 182,000 vehicles daily. The innovative design will help provide a safer and more efficient flow of traffic to and from I-88. Aldridge installed lighting and signaling for the interchange which officially opened in September 2015.
