Congress Blue Line Rehabilitation - Illinois

Transportation | Transit & Rail | Illinois

Project Summary

For over 40 years, Aldridge has been at the forefront of modernizing Chicago's Elevated (EL) train system, continuously enhancing the city's transportation infrastructure. The latest project, the Congress Line Improvement Phase I, marks the start of a comprehensive four-phase plan to fully reconstruct the Congress Branch of the Blue Line. This ambitious effort includes significant track renewal, the renovation of Racine Station, and the construction of a new substation.

In this phase, Aldridge crews are replacing ties and tracks, upgrading signals, and enhancing traction power to ensure safe and efficient commutes. Major electrical upgrades, including new LED lighting and communication systems, are being implemented. Collaborating closely with local utilities, we've also added new power lines and upgraded traction power equipment.

Safety and collaboration remain paramount as we coordinate with various crews, trade partners, and agencies. The use of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Prefabrication methods has streamlined the installation process, and our rail-borne equipment ensures smooth execution on active tracks. This project exemplifies Aldridge's commitment to modernizing urban transit and providing a safer, more efficient commute for Chicago's residents.
